Six Key Medicaid Definitions

  1. HCBS: Home and Community-Based Services that are delivered in an individual's home or a community setting like an assisted living facility.
  2. Low-income: 138 percent of Federal poverty level.
  3. Insitutional/Formal setting: Things like a nursing home or an intermediate care facility for people with intellectual disabilities.
  4. ABD: TANF is a federal government program delivered on the state level. Each state receives a lump sum of money used to support single parents of dependent children on a time-limited basis.
  5. LTSS: Long-term services and supports are provided for Medicaid beneficiaries living with a chronic illness or a person with a disability.
  6. Waivers: States may decide to waive Medicaid regulations to serve certain populations with certain services.
