Direct Contracting will be the next preeminent accountable care model from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation. As organizations weigh their participation options, the National Association of Accountable Care Organizations (NAACOS) has launched a Direct Contracting Taskforce to help all health care organizations understand the model and advocate for positive changes. The number of ACOs taking on risk “grew from 93 at the start of 2019 to 192 at the start of 2020." On January 1, “there were 270 low-revenue ACOs in the program, up 27% from a year earlier.”
