“I believe the key to both short and long term success for ACO’s lies in
the reimbursement models. The willingness of providers, both physicians
as well as hospitals, to make change will depend on the availability of
resources. Medicare shared savings, if any, are not determined or
distributed until well after the efforts and deployment of resources to
improve patient care has occurred. As each year goes by and only 25% of
the ACO’s see any shared savings, the willingness to continue to invest
the time, personnel, and resources will be questioned."

Since the start of 2014, an estimated 4.5 million more people have
been included in accountable care arrangements, bringing the total to
23.5 million covered ACO lives, only 7.8 million of which are in
Medicare. |
