"Private exchanges have emerged as a major benefits strategy and current expectations are that 30% or more of the commercial market will move to a private exchange over the next several years. As such, private exchanges become a critical distribution channel for health plans and present those plans with opportunities for differentiation in a competitive environment. One important area of differentiation for health plans will be their ability to deploy high performing ACOs as the network option for private exchange medical plans. In addition to the health plan channel for ACOs, there’s also opportunity for health systems that are forming ACOs to gain direct access to the employer market via private exchanges. Given the local nature of ACOs, private exchanges offer an operationally simpler platform to offer multiple ACO networks for employers that are geographically diverse." Every year, the American College of Healthcare Executives posts statistics on the rate of CEO turnover in the healthcare industry. Over the 30-plus years that ACHE has been tracking these figures, the industrywide CEO turnover rate has tended to hover around 15 percent per year. In 2012 it crept up to 17 percent. ...the 2013 figure was announced recently — 20 percent.
