ACOs that emphasize cutting costs without improving quality will likely
jeopardize patient access and, as a byproduct, public support for this
new model. ACOs that maintain the status quo and fail to focus on
improving coordination of care and patient experience won’t improve
costs or quality – and will please nobody. ACOs will only improve
quality and provide a better care experience for patients while lowering
costs if they include patients, families, and consumers in the process
of redesigning how care is delivered." Debra L. Ness, President,
National Partnership for Women & Families, Leader, Campaign for Better
