"A primary objective of ACOs is to be a test bed – to try out different clinical, management, and financial models to find those that are the most effective. This means that these models will be constantly changing. Therefore, a critical component of success in IT and analytical support will be the ‘agility’ of these teams to respond to change, and to rapidly prototype and develop IT systems that can implement these models without creating artificial limits on their scope. While homegrown EHR solutions may not be effective or necessary, financial systems will require significant flexibility to accommodate the variety of payment models that an ACO may implement. Similarly, ‘one-size-fits-all’ systems for claims analytics and reporting may not be sufficiently adaptable to the changing needs of these organizations. Therefore, the agility of IT departments will be critical to ACO success." Jonathan W. Pearce, CPA, FHFMA, Principal, Singletrack Analytics, LLC
