"My concern is that somebody will develop a big model based on a very heterogeneous data set that may not reflect the risk profile or the patient profile of an individual hospital. I’d hate to see them penalized or made to look like they’re not performing well when the model was never designed to be used in their environment."
- Robert Cima, MD,  Medical Director, Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester

Factoid
A study conducted at Kaiser Permanente in Southern California found that telehealth visits increased sharply after the start of the pandemic across all subgroups. Across age groups, the telehealth visits increased the most among children ages 0 to 5 years and the least among adults age 65 and older. Telehealth visits increased more among males (293.9%) than females (260%) during the early pandemic. Patients who were in the low-income group had the largest increase (313.5%) in telehealth visits.

5 Types of Challenges Facing Health Information Systems

1. Technical problems, including obstacles related to the installation of HISs, hardware availability, and network speed and availability.
2. Usage problems, such as poor system usability and problems with user training.
3. Quality problems, often related to poor data quality or poor quality of the HIS itself, some affecting patient safety.
4. Operational functionality, including missing features or problems with specific features of the system, often leading to users having to use multiple systems.
5. Maintenance and support problems, including lack of professional support, poor system maintenance, poor communication with the IT department and poor documentation.

Notes: From an article entitled, "Obstacles and features of health information systems: A systematic literature review," by J.Tummers, B.Tekinerdogan, H.Tobi, C.Catal and B.Schalk. Researchers conducted a systematic literature review of 1340 papers on Health Information Systems, from which they selected 136 studies upon which to perform a full-text analysis. 69 obstacles were identified, which fell into 5 general groups.
