A machine learning system called MedAware that generates clinical outlier, time-dependent and dosage outlier alerts was evaluated to determine whether each alert was accurate, valid and valuable. "Preventing ADEs [adverse drug events] saved $60.63 per alert, and averted calls between pharmacists and clinicians saved $0.047; extrapolating the results to the 747,985 patients who had an outpatient encounter, the alerts that would have been fired could have resulted in savings of $1,294,457."
