“Why can’t the experience of finding a physician or purchasing small
group coverage be similar to ride-hailing apps like Lyft? The small
business experience needs to change, starting with education. The weak
awareness of the gig economy vocabulary prompts the question: 'What
percentage of small businesses are even aware of the public and private
health insurance Exchange options?' The Small Health Options Programs
were dwarfed by the media’s curiosity about individual Exchanges. The
brokers who drove as much as 80% of small business in California and
Colorado felt the SHOP was an afterthought. Tax credits aren’t a selling
point, only a discussion point. If education is weak and the consumer
experience is horrendous, adoption won’t come. Healthcare is personal.
Why can’t we make the buying experience personal?” - Peter B. Nichol, CIO, Healthcare Business & Technology Executive, Healthcare Expert at PA Consulting Group. |

"A significant part of any premium rate request is the insurer’s estimate of how healthcare costs are going to change in the coming year. From looking at a handful of early rate filings, low-end projections are 3% to 5%, while some insurers are projecting trend of 7% to over 9%.” Excerpted from: Health Insurance Marketplace News, Volume 4, Issue 12, June Second Edition 2016, "What to Look for in 2017 ACA Marketplace Premium Changes," |
