“The MACRA legislation is very specific about who can enter into the Alternative Payment Model track and who will default into the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System. The important thing to know is that there is limited availability of APMs. Starting in 2019, most physicians will be in the MIPS track until more APMs become available. The AAFP encourages our members to prepare for the APM track, because there is more financial security without a risk of penalization. Family physicians who are interested in an APM model need to be prepared to start off in the MIPS program. Working to transform your practice will not only prepare you for the APM track, it will also increase scores and lead to greater success under the MIPS program.”
- Wanda D. Filer, MD, MBA, FAAFP, President, American Academy of Family Physicians.
