“There is a no one-size-fits-all approach when treating and managing patients with painful conditions. Individuals who live with pain are suffering and need compassionate, individualized and effective approaches to improving pain and clinical outcomes.”
Vanila M. Singh, M.D. chair of the HHS’ pain management task force, and chief medical officer of the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health.

A recent study compared outcomes for participants in the Transitions Clinic Network (TCN) -- a consortium of primary care clinics for high-risk, chronically ill people recently released from incarceration -- with a propensity-matched control group. "The TCN group had significantly fewer episodes of preventable hospitalizations (IRR=0.46)  and shorter length of hospital stay (IRR=0.41) compared with the matched comparison group." They also found that the TCN group "spent 45% fewer days incarcerated in a correctional facility in the 12 months following release compared with the matched comparison group that was not enrolled in such a program."
