“In our community, we have a school-based health center program that is operated by a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation called the Wayne Initiative for School Health (WISH). The students who attend the six WISH schools are nearly all patients in our practice. We have incorporated our electronic health record into the centers so that care for this very at-risk population is as seamless as possible. Our practice is available to students enrolled in WISH whenever the schools are closed, or whenever the WISH staff need our assistance. Staff of the WISH Centers attend the Category I Continuing Medical Education programs of the practice every Tuesday at 7 am in the hospital private dining area. The Director of our local health department is on the Board for the WISH Program, and the health department provides health education and nutrition services for the WISH Program. In our practice, we refer patients who need nutritional consultations to the Registered Dietitian at the health department.” David Tayloe,Jr., MD, FAAP, Goldsboro Pediatrics
