"Despite the fact people with disabilities comprise 25 percent of the population, they often confront barriers to basic health care services such as physical examinations, weight measurement, and effective communication with their physicians. To achieve more equitable care and social justice for patients with disability, considerable improvements are needed to educate physicians about making healthcare delivery systems more accessible and accommodating."

Factoid
According to a study reported in JAMA of 6,000 women over a 28-year period, the overall prevalence of preeclampsia among all women was 9.5%. Black women had the highest age-adjusted prevalence of preeclampsia (12.4%) compared with Hispanic (8.2%) and white women (7.1%). For Black women, birth status outside the U.S. and shorter duration of residence (those who lived in America for less than 10 years) were associated with 26% lower odds of preeclampsia.

COVID-19's Effect on Access to Care for Underserved Populations

This webinar explores the use of telehealth and general access to care for underserved populations both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Presenters discuss analysis of 3 unique data sets to examine: 1) Is use of telehealth associated with greater access to care before or during the pandemic?; 2) Is payment parity for telehealth associated with greater use at community health centers before and during the pandemic?; and 3) Did primary care providers leave the workforce in increasing numbers during the pandemic?
