"If someone has a transportation barrier and they are unable to get to
their doctor's appointment or to pick up their prescription, today in
the ICD-10 codes, there isn't a way to diagnose that. There is no common
way for the system to communicate around not only that barrier, but the

Although a recent
survey showed that the percentage of SLPs [speech-language pathologists]
working in rural facilities and the percentage of Americans who live in
rural areas were commensurate (about 19 percent each), the U.S.
currently experiences a general shortage of rehab professionals that is
expected to widen as baby boomers retire. The same survey indicated that
43 percent of SLPs work at two or more sites, and 17 percent work in
multiple locations. Excerpted from: Volume 11 Number 4, April 2019, "Catching Up With...Nate Cornish, MS, Clinical Director, Speech-Language, VocoVision." |
