"It’s not enough to think about whether we affect care and outcomes for
the population we’ve targeted. We need to look at the broader context:
What impact did that have on use of resources from a societal
perspective? We also need to consider what’s important to patients — how
do they define success and failure?"
- Mary D. Naylor, Ph.D., R.N.,
Professor of Gerontology, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.

According to a recent
study in JAMA Network Open, 24.4% of U.S. hospitals and 15.6%
of physician practices reported screening for all 5 of the following
social needs: food insecurity, housing instability, utility needs,
transportation needs, and interpersonal violence. However, 33.3% of
practices and 8.0% of hospitals reported no such screening.
