"While healthcare data analytics and predictive modeling properties are hot acquisition targets, I am not aware of any specific application in connection with M&A. I don’t keep track of M&A deals, but one of the biggest in the last few years was Aetna’s acquisition of Active Health and (more recently) McKesson’s acquisition of MedVentive, both of which had a significant predictive model component. I wouldn’t expect predictive modeling to be directly employed in M&A; after all, M&A is about markets, clients and financial projections, rather than the type of technical applications represented by PM. Even when an acquirer is evaluating a target, the acquirer does not have access to the type of detailed claims data that are needed to drive predictive models, and instead is generally limited to aggregate financial data.” Ian Duncan FSA FIA FCIA MAAA, Vice President, Outcomes & Analytics, and Head of Research, Walgreen Company
