"The move to the accountable care organization model of care calls for broad-sweeping structural, operational and cultural changes in our healthcare systems. The use of predictive modeling to predict readmission risk for non-reimbursable causes would be at the top of my wish list. The use of predictive modeling as part of the discharge process presents just one of the many opportunities to transform care in a way that not only benefits patients and their families, but also maximizes reimbursement under the ACO model. Although these models could really help ACOs maximize their reimbursement, the ACO environment presents various structural, operational and cultural challenges, opportunities and implications for the use of predictive modeling.” Julie A. Meek DNS, President, Meek Consulting LLC, Clinical Associate Professor, Indiana University School of Nursing |
