"With an appropriate dataset, it is certainly possible to build a model to predict the patients at highest risk of missing appointments...... It is possible to identify who is at highest risk; it is another thing to get the patients to the appointments. In some populations (commercial), the stick method may work (charge patients for missed appointments). In other populations, this won’t work, and another (logistical) solution has to be sought. One possibility that seems promising is to send an Uber car to pick up the patient and take him/her to the appointment. As with so many things in predictive analytics, the real challenge is successful implementation."

"Using the predicted FDI score, hospitals are assigned to high, medium-high, medium-low and low risk of financial distress for use by practitioners. The FDI forecasts 8.01% of rural hospitals to be at high risk of financial distress in 2015, 16.3% as mid-high, 46.8% as mid-low and 28.9% as low risk."
