"Patients with chronic conditions adhere to only 50% of drugs
prescribed. According to the Centers for Disease Control, medication
non-adherence costs the U.S. $100 to $300 billion per year and is at the
root of 33% to 69% of hospital admissions and it often is a critical
factor in readmissions....Medication adherence provides an ideal
opportunity for actual return on Patient Engagement. It is both
significant (worthy of the effort) and measurable (clear on the impact.)
It also offers a great example of how technology and thoughtful design
of communications can extend the reach and effectiveness of care
providers to drive a result." - Shara Cohen, Vice President Customer Experience, Wolters Kluwer Health. |

According
to a recent study, from 2010 through 2015, 93% of the patients initially
admitted to the hospital with firearm injuries survived. Of those
155,574 patients, 15.6% were readmitted one or more times within six
months, amounting to more than 33,000 hospital readmissions during the
study period. More than half occurred within 30 days of the original
discharge. The average total cost of inpatient hospital care for a
patient with a firearm injury was $32,700, and readmission accounted for
9.5% of that bill. Excerpted from: Care Analytics News, Care Intervention Edition, Volume 12, Number 14, November 2019, "Short-Term Hospital Readmissions For Gun Injuries Cost $86 Million A Year," by Amy Jeter Hansen.. |
